Personality Development and Pancha Kosha Yoga

Human personality has always been a subject of debate as it is considered to be a complex topic itself. There is not one, but many definitions of personality. It can be considered as the sum of physical, mental and behavioral traits that we display in our daily life. Not many people pay due attention to personality development, though it is given much attention in professional fields where companies spend significant time, money, and resources on personality development. You may think that you already have a developed personality, but it could be that you need to enhance your personality further with the help of panch kosha yoga

Pancha Kosha Yoga

The yogic view of personality
The human body consists of five layers or koshas, as per Yoga. These are as follows:
  • Annayama kosha (Conscious physical sheath)
  • Pranamaya kosha (Sub-conscious physical sheath)
  • Manomaya kosha (Mental sheath)
  • Vigyanmaya kosha (Intellectual sheath)
  • Anandamaya kosha (Blissful sheath)
The Annamaya kosha is basically related to our physical being including walking, talking, watching and other physical activities. All our actions that we complete with the help of our physical body revolve around Annamaya kosha.

The Pranamaya kosha is somewhat similar to the Anamaya kosha except that it is related to physical activities we perform in subconscious state of mind, like digestion, heart and lung movement, blood circulation etc. We do not do these actions deliberately, but our body does them by itself.

The Manomaya kosha is related to our thought process, emotions, and inner feelings. All our gross thinking and emotions belong to this category.

The Vigyanmaya kosha enables us to differentiate between right and wrong. We can choose the correct path in this world filled with ''maya'' with the help of this kosha.

Anandamaya kosha is a blissful state of mind in which we experience pure joy and happiness. Deep meditation can give us such joy.

Coming to conclusion, five koshas yoga are the core of yoga and meditation, and there should be perfect harmony and balance between these koshas so that our body and mind are in healthy state. Yoga gurus teach certain postures and exercises which help human beings to achieve the blissful state of mind.
